Ways to Differentiate Instruction:
- modify assignments so that students do not have to complete the entire assignment
- allow for pictures or dictated responses in journal entry
- chunk activities - allow students to complete a part, take a break, and then come back to it
- allow extended time
- flexible pairing/grouping of students - ESL with English speaker, low reader with high reader, etc.
- have picture clues to show process and vocabulary definition for ESL students or lower readers
- directions and content can be read out loud or given as a video/screencast when watching videos, screen magnifiers such as Join.Me can be used for vision-impaired students or closed captioining can be turned on for hearing-impaired students
- offer additional options for final products - group models, group presentations, adult assistance
- Mini-Lessons: offered to support student-learning; can be tailored to meet specific needs of small groups of students
- Formative Assessments: provide lots of informal ways to make sure students are obtaining knowledge they need to continue their learning process during this project
- Allow for reflection and revision of all projects assessed
- Summative Assessments: empowering the learner to see what they earned and learned using our learning ladders
- Great online resource for differentiated instruction Credit: Adapted from BIE.org Project Teaching & Learning Guide
